According to the Hebrew Bible, the Habitation (Hebrew: מִשְׁכַּן, mishkān, meaning residence or residence location ), also known as the Camping tent of the Members (אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵד֩ ōhel mō êḏ, likewise Tent of Fulfilling, and so on), was the portable earthly home place of Yahweh (the God of Israel) utilized by the Israelites from the Exodus till the conquest of Canaan. Moses was instructed at Mount Sinai to build and carry the tabernacle with the Israelites on their journey through the wild as well as their subsequent occupation of the Promised Land. After 440 years, Solomon s Temple in Jerusalem superseded it as the dwelling-place of God. The main source describing the tabernacle is the scriptural Book of Exodus, specifically Exodus 25-- 31 and 35-- 40.
